Spain is one of the largest host countries for Ukrainians in Europe: over 226–236 thousand people have received temporary protection, fourth after Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. The largest Ukrainian communities are in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Malaga; in Andalusia and Murcia many Ukrainians work in agriculture, in Catalonia — in services. Madrid is the capital and geographic centre of the country and the final stop of most trips. Catalonia (Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona) is the first Spanish region on every bus's way, an important transport and labour hub. Andalusia (Seville, Malaga, Marbella, Almería) is the destination of southern trips, a region with seasonal work in agriculture and tourism. Beaches, resorts and holidays on the route

The bus reaches the Costa Brava (Girona, Barcelona, Tarragona) right at the start of the Spanish part of the route — sandy beaches and coves of Catalonia. Documents and border crossing

For a trip from Khmelnytskyi to Spain you need a valid biometric international passport — it gives visa-free entry to the Schengen Area, which includes Spain. Since 10 April 2026 the digital EES system has been in operation at the EU's external borders: biometric data is recorded at the first crossing and paper stamps are no longer used.

During martial law, men aged 18–60 face restrictions on leaving Ukraine, with a list of exemptions (deferment, reservation, disability, large families, study abroad, etc.) — each exemption is confirmed by a separate document, so check your status in «Reserv+» or «Diia» before the trip. Men aged 60 and over travel freely with a passport; border guards only check the military registration document.

We also recommend carrying proof of the purpose of your trip and of sufficient funds, and for a short stay — travel medical insurance (refugees with temporary protection are not asked for it at the border, but for other passengers it makes the check much easier). Drivers help organise border control, but each passenger is personally responsible for having all required documents.
